RECLAIMED REFRIGERANTS
Reclamation is the recycling and purification of recovered refrigerant to restore its original properties. Using reclaimed refrigerant is particularly advantageous for equipment that must use refrigerants with a GWP of 2500, as it enables continued compliance where new high-GWP refrigerants may be restricted.
WHY?
The EU regulation permits the temporary use of reclaimed fluorinated greenhouse gases with a GWP of 2,500 or higher for the maintenance and servicing of existing refrigeration equipment. This exemption applies until 1 January 2030 (for A/C equipment, until 2032) and is valid only if the gases (cylinders) are labeled in accordance with Article 12(7). Labels must include the name and address of the reclamation plant within the European Union.
HOW?
Refrigerant that has degraded during use undergoes advanced purification to ensure its parameters meet the AHRI 700 standard. Contract reclamation involves the complete reconstruction of the refrigerant composition (in the case of mixtures) and the achievement of the following parameters:
content of admixtures by mass - 0,5% mas.
non-condensing gas content ≤ 1,5% obj.
humidity ≤10 ppm
acid content ≤ 1 ppm
chloride ion content - 0
content of high boilers ≤ 0,01% obj.
A PROZON Laboratory quality certificate confirms the quality of reclaimed refrigerant in line with the AHRI 700 standard. For each case above, a Waste Transfer Card is provided for the refrigerant delivered to the Reclamation Centre. This card serves as proof that waste has been handled in accordance with the law.
WHO?
PROZON Climate Protection Foundation has worked since 1996 to protect the ozone layer by recovering and reclaiming ozone-depleting substances. Since 2010, its efforts have focused on mitigating climate change through reclaiming refrigerants with high global warming potential. It is the only company in Poland conducting comprehensive reclamation of fluorinated greenhouse gases at its unique 4R facility near Warsaw, supporting the circular economy and modern, environmentally friendly solutions.
